EU Air Safety List: Good news for Mozambique, bad news for Zimbabwe and Angola!

The European Commission has updated the EU Air Safety List (16 May 2017), the list of non-European airlines that do not meet international safety standards, and are therefore subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union. According to the list, a total of 181 airlines are banned from EU skies. Among these banned airlines are the flag carrier of Zimbabwe, Air Zimbabwe, and the flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines. While Air Zimbabwe is now fully banned from entering EU skies due to unaddressed safety deficiencies that were detected by the European Aviation Safety Agency during the assessment for a third country operator authorisation, TAAG remains one of the six airlines worldwide that are only allowed to fly to the EU with specific aircraft types. The good news that came with the update of the EU Air Safety List is that all airlines certified in Mozambique are now cleared from the list and are therefore not banned from entering EU skies anymore.
